Hubbard Glacier with Champagne and Chocolate

Scenic cruising happens when the ship is able to get near to a vista that everyone wants to see.  This afternoon that vista turned out to be Hubbard Glacier.  The enormous river of ice creates its own micro climate so the weather vasilated between sunny and cloudy.  In the sun it felt warm and in the clouds it became nippy.

Our party of four decided that scenic cruising is a good time to take advantage of gifts bestowed upon them.  The Santacrose “young-uns” (Brian, Laura, Diana and Michael) sent a bottle of champagne and some specially designed chocolates.

Three members of the party drank the champagne.  One member used it as a prop.
Our silliness aside the glacier gets very blue as the sky clouds up.  That’s typical of glacial ice.  Hubbard Glacier is a tidewater river and it “calves” into the water which leaves it littered with chunks of ice.  All of that is gorgeous.

Tomorrow continues with scenic cruising of Glacier Bay National Park.
